How to Tell When Your Tires Should be Replaced
Driving on worn tires can be dangerous, so it's important to know when it's time to invest in a new set. Here are a few warning signs that can indicate that you should replace your tires:
- Tread Wear: Having adequate tread is essential for gaining the traction you need to accelerate and slow down. You can check your tire tread with the penny test. Slip a coin headfirst between your tire's tread and check to see if the top of the coin's head is visible. If it is, your tires are worn, and we recommend replacing them.
- Poor Handling: If you notice that it's more difficult to gain traction when you drive, it could be a sign that your tires are low on tread and should be replaced.
- Tire Age: Most manufacturers suggest getting new tires every six years. Even if your tires look to be in good shape, rubber still degrades over time, making it dangerous to drive on old tires.
