The Jeep Wrangler Is Made for Any Type of Weather

In the midsize SUV market, no entry is more primed for the rough-and-tough outdoors than the Jeep Wrangler. Its mechanical attributes and exterior design is ideal for those who frequently take their rides on trail adventures, away from civilization. But the latest Wrangler-part of the nameplate's fourth production cycle-is much more than just a supreme off-roader. It sports several other attributes that make it a worthwhile midsize SUV purchase for our Glendale, WI drivers.

Performance

There's a reason why the Jeep Wrangler has stuck with the popular 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 all these years. Even with time, the Pentastar still packs a mighty punch: with an output of 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. That means you have more than enough power to accelerate when necessary efficiently.

The Pentastar is pinned to a 6-speed manual transmission for ultimate gear shifting control, although there's the choice of going with an 8-speed automatic gearbox instead if you want more convenience. However, the true star of the Wrangler's powertrain configuration is its Command-Trac Part-Time four-wheel-drive system. Command-Trac is standard, conquering rocky and dumpy driving surfaces with a 2.72-to-1 low-range transfer case that is smooth and quiet.

Design and Exterior Features

Each trim available on the Jeep Wrangler is available either as a two-door or a four-door. For more exclusive use, go for the two-door, which seats up to four people. Otherwise, spring for the four-door for more practicality; it seats up to five. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the Wrangler is versatile; simply remove its soft top, and you have yourself a convertible for those sunnier months. You can even opt for a hardtop if preferred.

The Wrangler is automatically fitted with features such as halogen headlights, front fog lights, manually folding side mirrors, and 17-inch black steel wheels. Go for an upper-level trim if you want to upgrade with features such as automatic on/off ability on the headlights to adjust to outdoor light automatically, longer-lasting and brighter LEDs to replace the incandescent bulbs on the taillights, side steps for easier and more convenient entry, and 17-inch or 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Interior

The Jeep Wrangler is designed as a two-row vehicle. At the front are a six-way manually adjustable driver's seat with two-way manual lumbar control and a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat to keep you comfortable as you drive through Greenfield, WI. The rear seats can fold down to expand cargo room if needed. Upgrades include leather seat trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and steering-wheel and front-seat heating.

Infotainment features are integrated with the Uconnect system, which is anchored by a five-inch touchscreen. Uconnect is user-friendly, with menus that are simple to understand and a touchscreen that quickly responds to inputs.

Accompanying Uconnect are Bluetooth for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, AM/FM radio, and a USB port and an audio jack for connecting and playing media from mobile devices. There's also illuminated cupholders, push-button engine start, and a vehicle information center that includes a 3.5-inch TFT black-and-white display.

Upgrades include automatic climate control, a seven-inch color display, remote or proximity keyless entry, a Wi-Fi hotspot, remote engine start, a garage-door opener, power windows, smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an Alpine stereo system, a one-year SiriusXM Radio subscription, navigation, and a seven-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Safety

A rearview camera, hill start assist, electronic stability control with electronic roll mitigation, traction control, trailer sway damping, a theft-deterrent system, and four airbags are standard on the Jeep Wrangler. You can get additions or enhancements such as daytime running lamps, rear parking sensors, brake assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
